Is Lockdown An Effective Way To Prevent The Spread Of COVID-19?
About four months ago, almost nobody knew the existence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Now the COVID- 19 is already a reason for creating an economic crisis and widespread panic affecting nearly 337,072 lives in the US. The virus has disrupted the modern livelihood of the society on such a large scale that most citizens of America have ever witnessed. Somewhat like the attacks of 9/11 or the imprints of World War II, this coronavirus pandemic has already left its mark on the nation’s psyche.
Originating from a cause that is unknown to us and the significant number of death tolls occurring due to it, the WHO has already called it a pandemic. Stopping this virus from spreading to the community level is the last option left for us until and unless a vaccine comes into existence. Any measures of any kind will be of great help in slowing the spread of COVID- 19. Researchers say that until the creation of a vaccine, self-quarantine or lockdown is the only viable way to slow the spreading of coronavirus pandemic effectively.
How Can Lockdown Be The Best Way to Prevent The Spread Of COVID-19
The US witnessed the first-ever lockdown of its kind when San Francisco and some other bay areas in and around California, went under lockdown to stop the rapidly spreading coronavirus. The government made it a voluntary order, active till the 7th of April, where citizens need to stay inside their house unless and until it is an absolute necessity.
Lockdowns of such kind mean all non-essential places should be closed, such as gyms, restaurants, bars, public places, etc. Essential places such as grocery stores, launderettes, pharmacies can remain open. All non-essential gatherings or transport is wholly prohibited during this lockdown period.
According to the CDC or Centers for Disease Control And Prevention, the primary purpose of a lockdown or a quarantine is to stop or reduce the spread of this contagious disease.
Mandating quarantines and lockdowns and implementing the same on all the parts of the United States can help in flattening the curve or slowing the spread of the pandemic. Thus it can help in protecting the vulnerable mass population.
Remember, when China announced that Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak is to shut down indefinitely the world took that with astonishment with even experts warning that it was a hazardous and unprecedented attempt to prevent the spread of the disease. From more than five hundred cases per day, China’s effort to isolate Wuhan did bring results after two months with just a few single-digit cases.
Their approach of lockdown has turned out to become the model for all other countries. Lowering down the spread can be of real help to the already overwhelming medical facilities.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the CDC has chalked out many brilliant ideas to overcome the shortage of nurses and medical staff and has instructed all Higher Education Institutes in the US and all nursing institutions to respond and prepare well for the pandemic situation. Erudite Nursing school being an elite online nursing school offers different types of accelerated nursing programs and a highly specific course on response training and emergency preparedness to win the fight against the unknown pandemic destroying humans throughout the globe.
