NURSING-SCHOLARSHIP BILL APPROVED FOR NORTHERN MARIANAS COLLEGE STUDENTS

NURSING-SCHOLARSHIP BILL APPROVED FOR NORTHERN MARIANAS COLLEGE STUDENTS

In a news web article, it was reported that the House Committee on Education had approved a Senate measure that will institute a nursing-scholarship program for Northern Marianas College students.

The Senate Bill 20-71, introduced by Senate President Arnold I. Palacios, and was amended and adopted by the committee chaired by Rep. Edwin Aldan.

Reported on the same web article, Aldan said the bill formerly required a scholarship recipient to work as a nurse at the Commonwealth Health Center, the Tinian Health Center or the Rota Health Center for two years or at a private health clinic for three years.

Further, Aldan mentioned, they took out the phrase “or at a private health clinic for a period of three years” because they want students to prioritize the public health centers.

He said they also included a proposal suggested by Rep. Frank Dela Cruz to include local nursing students enrolled in accredited U.S. institutions in the states.

This bill will offer up to $8,000 in monetary aid to students enrolled in the nursing program as long as they agree to train and work as nurses at CHC within a year after accomplishing a nursing degree, passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) examination, and earning a license as registered nurses.

Twenty nursing students — three each from Rota and Tinian and the rest from Saipan — will benefit from this scholarship annually.

Northern Marianas College, a Land Grant Institution, located in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), is accredited by the Senior College and University Commission of the Western Association for Schools and Colleges.

Erudite Nursing Institute™ is glad to know that few measures are now enacted for most parts in the US, particularly in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, in support for nursing aspirants to reach their dream of becoming the front liners of healthcare.

The institute salutes politicians who are making initiatives to fulfill this dream.
