SAINT BARNABAS MEDICAL CENTER ACHIEVES MAGNET RECOGNITION FOR OUTSTANDING NURSING CARE

Patient care satisfaction should be health care organization and their communities’ objective promoting inspiration to other health systems to perform much better.

In an article, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) in Livingston achieved Magnet recognition, the highest national honor for nursing excellence, this month reflecting its nursing professionalism, teamwork and patient care supremacy.

According to SBMC, the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. With this credential, SBMC joins the global community of Magnet-recognized organizations, which includes 477 U.S. health care organizations out of more than 6,300 U.S. hospitals.

“Magnet recognition provides our community with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of patient care,” said Stephen Zieniewicz, FACHE, president and chief executive officer at SBMC.

On the other hand, Vice president and chief nursing officer Jennifer O’Neill, DNP, APN, NEA-BC, added that achieving this recognition reinforces the culture of excellence that is a cornerstone of how SBMC serves the community.

“It’s also tangible evidence of our nurses’ commitment to providing the very best care to our patients, of which we are extremely proud,” she said.

Research indicates that Magnet recognition delivers specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as the following:

  • Greater patient satisfaction with nurse communication, accessibility of help and receipt of discharge information.
  • Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lesser failure to rescue rates.
  • Higher job satisfaction among nurses.
  • Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions.

Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is a factor when the public judges health care organizations. U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.

Erudite Nursing Institute™ is glad about SBMC’s achievement of being recognized in its nursing excellence. The institute believes that through Magnet recognitions, more and more healthcare organizations will strive for the best in delivering superior patient care.
