ST. PETERSBURG FREE CLINIC DESPERATE FOR MORE NURSE VOLUNTEERS

Nursing demands are almost everywhere. Typically, it is one of hard to contain problems that health systems encounter, locally and nationally. Like any of those, St. Petersburg Free Clinic is going through the same condition.

"There’s definitely a lack of nurses and a high demand for them nationally," said Shevette Batts, St. Petersburg Free Clinic Director.

The situation makes it difficult to find nurses eager to volunteer at free clinics.

"Most of our patients are the socio-economic, distressed population," Batts said.

St. Petersburg Free Clinic provides general practitioner care and more than 9,000 services for people without insurance.

Most of the clinic’s doctors and staff are volunteers, but the lack of nurses means fewer patients they can see.

"The nurses are the ones who see the patients first, who get the vital signs and make sure the labs are here. Without that we wouldn’t have a role for the physicians because we need the nursing support," said Dr. Susan Beaven, a volunteer physician at the clinic.

If you’re a nurse licensed in the state of Florida and who’s willing to volunteer, don’t hesitate to call the St. Petersburg Free Clinic at 727-237-0333 and ask to speak with Doug.

Erudite Nursing Institute™ wants to produce nurses who greatly imbue service and dedication to their job. May it be paid or free servicing health systems like free clinics, it’s a meaningful experience to serve others.
